Churchy Walker the man to beat

Our first night in Esperance, turned into a day meeting with the Saturday night rained out. This was after the track crew worked tirelessly to get the track raceable after 50mm of rain. They did a grand job, but mother nature opened up the heavens again at the parade laps and the meeting was postponed until Sunday. Once again the track crew led by Murray Parsons (AMCA Driver and President) did a great job and bought the track back to life. We started with a field of 8 cars, 6 local and 2 visiting from Kalgoorlie, Lionel Kirkby and Tony Scafidi. Best presented AMCA went to Greg "Turbo" Thornton with his Purple hologram 3D wrap over the car… we could call them "Bling Racing".
The Esperance track has been completely revamped with extra banking so first race out was meant to be cautious, but everyone took to it and after an adventurous race, it was won by "Mad Mick Roost" in the Ex WA1 Jac Dolmans Car. Lionel, after leading the second race for a number of laps, hit the wall allowing Peter "Churchy" Walker through who went on to win the race. The Third heat was the same with an outside pole line pass at the start Churchy went on to win that heat as well. The final was a scrap between Mad Mick and Churchy, Mick driving the low line and Churchy driving the mid line, door to door racing over fifteen laps with half done in rain, with the only touch being a friendly nudge from behind on a restart (whilst Amber…!!!), would see Churchy win by a nose cone across the line.

Best Presented car went to Greg Thornton

The top three results for the day were 1/ Peter 'Churchy" Walker, 2/ "Mad" Mick Roost 3/ Greg "Turbo" Thornton. Craig "electrifying" Morris also made his debut in the ex WA20 Jock Murray car and proved that he will be a major threat to the top positions. Other drivers who had problems that set them back on the night were… JD Champion and Bill "the Poser" Govans. Watch out for the new revamped Esperance track, there were two good lines on Sunday, without 50mm rain, there will be 3 lines easy. The banking is steeper and it has drive. A bit rutty this meeting, but without the rain, it will be good. Many thanks to AMCA division sponsor "Lighting by Lakes".
