Hancock too good in Esperance |

Well once again the elements were against us as we gathered to support the “Healthways WASCF Junior state title” as the sky opened up after our first heat, causing the meeting for that night to be abandoned for the evening, but the first heat was a cracker. We were able to field 10 cars with the normal rabble of locals on track with the addition of Esperance President Murray “Pothole” Parsons and visitors Lionel Kirkby, Aaron Hancock and Jac Dolmans Snr. It was really a race between Lionel and Aaron with the latter looking like he had been racing the Esperance track all his life, but in the end, the finishing order was 1/ Aaron Hancock 2/ Lionel Kirkby 3/ Churchy Walker Well heat 2 was moved to early the next day after the rain intervened, a twelve lapper that had racing right through the field Aaron and Jac put on a great show for the first two spots and the 3rd and 4th was a tight, clean tussle between Churchy and a very fast Greg Thornton on a track that was heavy, but excellent after the mammoth effort made by the Esperance club to rescue the track after the overnight rain. Finishing positions were 1/ Jac Dolmans 2/ Aaron Hancock 3/ Greg Turbo Thornton With a two race break, we were sent out again to split the Junior title rounds, only to see “the Rookie” blast off in to the distance, throw a few more laps into the fray, and there could have been a full field lapped. Late in this race there was a three car pile up between JD, Jac and Greg with Jac sustaining the most car damage. JD was a bit sore, but made it back for the final and Greg was able to make the evasive sideways slide with a minimum of contact. All rushed into help with repairs, but we need not have hurried as in the end we were faced with a 9 hour wait until our feature event at the end of the night. The finishing order was… 1/ Aaron Hancock, 2/ Churchy Walker and 3/ Jac Dolmans Yes… same day, but nine hours later. Might be ok for the young fellow, but anyone 40+ was struggling to find motivation to get back in the car for a race that stared at 11.50pm, we eventually did an eventful 10 Lapper with 1/ Aaron Hancock, 2/ Churchy Walker, 3/ Jac Dolmans crossing the line. The track was rough but fast with cars actually airborne a common occurrence. All drivers finished the night, Bill Govans after an altercation with the fence on Boxing day practice seemed to have slowed a little from the last meeting, However I am sure he will be back. It was good to see Murray “Pothole” Parson make his return to AMCAS in a rebuilt “Thornton” Car and Craig “Electrifying” Morris was very quiet compared to last race meetings standards as he strives to rebuild his confidence. His Madness, Mick Roost, seems to have sorted out some fuel issues and once he gets his right rear tyre to stay on the rim I am sure we will see him at the pointy end. Thanks to all the AMCA boys for their patience on the night/day/night as we fitted in with the Junior state title…. After watching the quality and pace of racing of the Juniors….Lesson for the weekend…. “Juniors and Ex Juniors are far too fit and fast and far too confident in their abilities to be able to race AMCAs”… Sorry Aaron, you are just too quick. AMCAS are racing every weekend in Esperance, with the exception of the Collie weekend, anyone is welcome to join us and try out the new track.
