Koran Atkinson produced a flawless run in the feature race to win his first AMCA State Title at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway on Saturday night. In a feature race that went 30 laps flag to flag, Atkinson edged out Kalgoorlie gun Jason Roberts who finished second in his first year driving in the AMCA division.
Phil 'Shooter' Zudeima was third and 'Fast' Eddie Boeg held off Visser for fourth.
Heat racing was simply superb with wins going to Zudeima (2), Boeg, Jamie Oldfield, Jac Dolmans Snr and Collin Dolmans.
The Racing was so close that at the end of the heats Atkinson and Roberts were tied on points and tossed a coin to decide where they would start in the feature. Roberts won and elected to start from pole. As the green came on and the cars headed to turn 1 Atkinson flew around the outside of Roberts to grab the early lead.
Within 5 laps the leaders hit lapped traffic and this was Roberts best chance to pass Atkinson. Just as he had done all night Atkinson didn't put a foot wrong and passed the lapped cars when the opportunity arose to win a much deserved State Title.
The pick of the Heat racing was the last before the feature. With Boeg, Oldfield & Atkinson coming from the rear of the field thrilling the crowd with awesome 3 wide racing. Unfortunately, Oldfield's engine expired with a lap to go with Boeg taking the win over Atkinson and Newbury.
